Throughout the program you will work directly with a doctor —not a nurse—who will serve as your Case Manager and will guide you to the answers that you need. Whenever you’re concerned about a treatment or diagnosis, feel that you are not clear on what to do next, or wonder if you have all the information you need to be comfortable making a decision, call Advance Medical. A covered member calls through a dedicated phone line. As soon as the benefit is confirmed the member is sent a short enrollment form that allows ADVANCE MEDICAL to collect medical records on the member’s behalf.

Within 1 business day of that form being received the member is called by an ADVANCE MEDICAL physician. The ADVANCE MEDICAL physician works with the member to understand the medical situation. The physician will record a medical history and collect medical files to create a comprehensive case history.

A Clinical Committee, comprised of Medical Directors and other Physician Case Managers, reviews the case together and then engages the most appropriate experts. The medical case is sent to several experts. They write a report with his or her opinion on the case’s diagnosis, treatment plan, and answer the patient’s questions. Each expert’s report is compiled to create an Expert Medical Opinion Report for the patient.

The physician case manager works with the member and the treating physician so that they understand the report. ADVANCE MEDICAL is available for the patient, whenever they need follow-up conversations.

Who is Advance Medical?
Dell has partnered with Advance Medical to provide the Expert Medical Opinion benefit. Advance Medical is an international health care services provider that helps patients with expert consultations around the world.
When to use Expert Medical Opinion?
The Expert Medical Opinion program is valuable if you need more information in order to feel comfortable with a health-related decision. No physician can keep current with all recent medical findings and two minds thinking about your health are better than one. Getting an Expert Medical Opinion ensures that you have additional information from world-class experts so that you can make the right decision about your next steps.
Who is eligible?
Dell team members, spouses/partners, and dependent children enrolled in a Dell US national, regional or expat medical plan can access Expert Medical Opinion at no cost. In addition, any COBRA or Pre-65 Retiree (and covered dependents) enrolled in a Dell US medical plans are also eligible for Expert Medical Opinion.
Is this benefit available to all Dell employees globally?
At this time, this service is only available to Dell US team members.
What conditions or treatments are applicable?
Any medical question on any condition or treatment is applicable. We work with full range of medical issues including dentistry, ophthalmology, and behavioral health.
What does it cost?
It is 100% paid for by Dell.
Is it confidential?
Yes, your confidentiality is assured. Advance Medical’s data protection systems utilize the most advanced technology available to comply with all information privacy standards. Administrative, physical and technical safeguards exceed regulations regarding personal information protection.
Does Advance Medical have to contact my doctor?
The choice is entirely up to you, however involving your treating physician in the Expert Medical Opinion process helps us secure the best possible results for you.
How long does it take?
Most often members receive a report in a few short weeks, however, timing will vary based on complexity of the situation and accessibility of the medical records. Members receive a call from their Physician Case Manager every week to be updated on the progress.
Do I need to get my medical records?
Advance Medical will collect your medical records. The enrollment form you complete gives us the permission to collect records on the member’s behalf.
Do I have to travel or go to an office to see these doctors?
All communication is done via telephone so there is no need to travel or make an appointment.
What makes a doctor an Expert?
Experts are recognized within the medical community as thought-leaders in specific diseases or medical conditions. They hold significant positions at academic institutions, major medical centers, societies and journals. However, they are ultimately chosen for their specific knowledge and experience successfully treating patients.
What languages does Advance Medical support for non-English speakers?
Advance Medical can work with you in a language that is comfortable for you.
